The UFC confirmed today that a welterweight bout between Marcus Davis and Nate Diaz has been signed and the two will square off at UFC 118 on August 28th at TD Garden in Boston.
Both Davis and Diaz bounced back nicely in their last bouts after suffering losses. “The Irish Hand Grenade” beat down on Jonathan Goulet at UFC 113 in May, while Diaz stopped the always tough Rory Markham at UFC 111 in March.
It was at UFC 111 that Diaz made his welterweight debut following a tough loss to Gray Maynard who was able to muscle around the weaker Diaz.
With UFC 118 being the promotion’s first event in Boston, it only makes sense to have Davis on the card. A former contestant on “The Ultimate Fighter,” Davis is a native of Bangor, Maine and will have lots of support from those in attendance.
According to MMAJunkie.com, Diaz should be in the clear of any sanctions against him for his role in the “brawl” at “Strikeforce: Nashville” in April.
UFC 118 will be headlined by a lightweight title rematch between newly minted champ Frankie Edgar and former title holder BJ Penn.
