Why Strikeforce Needs Fedor Emelianenko To Win This Saturday

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker recently opened up about his promotion’s chances of ending up on pay-per-view as he admitted that they would need an “unblemished” Fedor Emelianenko to make it happen.

Although Strikeforce brass wouldn’t ever admit it, this could be a make or break Saturday for the organization. Once again, an MMA promotion has thrown all of their eggs in one basket and if the Russian falls, Strikeforce may soon follow.

Emelianenko puts his 27-fight winning streak on the line against Fabricio Werdum inside the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA. If Fedor is able to prove the Gambling Gods correct, he’ll likely enter the final bout on his Strikeforce deal starring in the company’s first pay-per-view broadcast.

It will be his first bout since knocking out former undefeated fighter Brett Rogers at “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers” this past November.

“If Fedor still has an unblemished record, does it make sense to go into the pay-per-view business? I would say, probably,” Coker told MMAWeekly.

To make matters more interesting, Fedor’s camp (M-1 Global) told the website that if Strikeforce wanted to go into the pay-per-view business with Fedor, it wasn’t going to happen with his current contract.

Could this be part of the reason why Dana White recently went on the record calling Fedor’s management team “douches?”

First things first though, Fedor has to beat Werdum on Saturday night at to even consider having a Fedor vs. Alistair Overeem megafight for the Strikeforce heavyweight title.
