Dana White Confirms Randy Couture Vs. James Toney For UFC 118

UFC president Dana White confirmed to over the weekend that the Randy Couture – James Toney bout scheduled for UFC 118 is “set.”

As we reported last week, reported that Randy Couture had signed his contract to face the former pro boxer in a heavyweight bout at UFC 118 on August 28, however it was unknown if Toney had signed his bout agreement as well.

Soon after Toney’s UFC signing was reported earlier this year, it was Couture who immediately threw his name into the mix of potential opponents for the former boxing champion.

It’s unclear as to what position a the bout would have on the August 28th card as the UFC has yet to formally announce the rumored lightweight title rematch between Frankie Edgar and BJ Penn.

If Edgar vs. Penn II takes place at UFC 118, then the Couture vs. Toney bout would be featured in the co-main event slot but its also possible for Toney’s UFC debut to be the main event if the UFC decided to hold off on the 155-pound title bout.

There has been a lot of talk about Dana White’s homecoming in late August and wanting to make UFC 118 at TD Garden in Boston a super card. If that were the case, then both rumored fights would likely take place on the same card.
