Immediately following Lyoto Machida’s “official” loss to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 113 earlier this month, Machida’s longtime manager Ed Soares spoke about the necessity of bringing his talented band of fighters back together in order to support one another.
The message was sent and must have been very well received because the enitre Team Black House squad was out in full force to witness Antonio Rogerio Nogueira escape with a controversial split decision over Jason Brilz at UFC 114.
“Everybody has been totally cool. Everyone knows that everyone is going to team up together to try and better themselves. The camaraderie is much stronger and maybe the strongest it’s ever been,” Soares told MMAJunkie.
Soares admitted to the media that prior to Machida’s loss, the team had been M.I.A. and that if they wanted to get back to the top of the mixed martial arts mountain, they had to reunite.
“It’s a great feeling,” Nogueira stated. “It gives me a lot of support, and they all came here for me. It motivates me. It makes me get out there and put on my performance.”
Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, Junior dos Santos, Jose Aldo and Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal were all Octagon-side to support Little Nog in his quest to becoming a light heavyweight contender.
