Despite raising questions about his training and dedication by weighing in at 305 pounds, Tim Sylvia dispatched strongman Mariusz Pudzianowski handily last night at Moosin: God of Martial Arts.
Pudzianowski scored a takedown in the opening moments of the fight but that would be the only significant offense that the five-time World’s Strongest Man would mount during the bout. After Sylvia quickly stood up he found his rhythm and distance and overwhelmed Pudzianowski with strikes. Pudzianowski barely lasted the first round and Sylvia needed less than two minutes of the second to put him away. “The Maine-iac” got Pudzianowski in the crucifix position and rained down blows until Pudzianowski tapped. With the win, Sylvia improved his record to 26-6 but wins over inexperienced fighters such as Pudzianowski (who is now 2-1) likely will not boost him too far back up the heavyweight rankings.
In other action, Travis Wiuff knocked Josh Barnes out in 34 seconds–Wiuff landed a left hook, a right hand and followed up with ground and pound to seal the deal. Wiuff’s record now stands at 61-14 while Barnes’ sits at an even 5-5.
Travis Lutter was also stopped in the first round; after a slow start, his opponent, Rafael Natal, landed a left hook that dropped him and after following that with a ground and pound attack the referee put a halt to the fight.
Mike Campbell and Yves Edwards battled it out for three rounds with the end result being a unanimous decision win for Campbell.
Tara LaRosa and Roxanne Modaferri engaged in an exciting, back and forth fight that saw Modaferri avenge a previous loss to LaRosa with a split-decision victory.
