Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le enjoyed an unblemished mixed martial arts career for a span of two-plus years covering six fights. That all changed when the fighter-turned-actor battled Scott Smith at Strikeforce: Evolution last December.
After pulling off a great come-from-behind upset victory, Smith hopes to have the fight go differently this time around when he rematches Le at Strikeforce and M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Werdum on June 26th.
“For me, as a fighter, I want to go out there and prove that I didn’t just get lucky and knock him out in the third,” Smith told MMAJunkie.com. “I want to go out there and maul him in the first round like I wanted to do.”
Smith plans on changing his strategy for Le this time around, and expects Le to be in better shape than during their first outing.
“He’ll just come in better shape,” Smith said. “To beat Cung Le, you’ve got to attack him. You can’t let him keep the distance; that’s where he kicks. That’s what I didn’t do in the first fight, so I’m working on a lot of new things on angles and just attacking and overwhelming him.”
Smith will face Le in the co-main event of Strikeforce / M-1 Global – Fedor vs. Werdum on June 26, 2010 from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. Fedor Emelianenko will face Fabricio Werdum in the main event of the card.
