UFC middleweight Nate Marquardt will still be fighting this summer, and is rumored to be facing Rousimar Palhares in August.
As noted earlier, Alessio Sakara has pulled out of their scheduled bout at UFC 116 due to the recent passing of his father.
The bout will be Marquardt’s since UFC 109. The event was supposed to be the night Marquardt earned another shot at Anderson Silva, but current top contender Chael Sonnen crashed Marquardt’s party and reshuffled the UFC’s middleweight rankings.
With the upset victory, Sonnen earned himself a shot at Silva’s belt, which he will be looking to capture at UFC 117 in August.
Marquardt came up well short in his first attempt at gold when he lost via TKO against Silva at UFC 73. That bout was almost three years ago and he has been working relentlessly towards another shot ever since.
