Dana White Confirms That Randy Couture Vs. James Toney Likely For UFC 118

According to a report on, UFC President Dana White confirmed to a group of reporters after last night's Aldo vs. Faber post-fight press conference that he was targeting a superfight between Randy Couture and former boxer James Toney for UFC 118 in August.

“It's not a done deal yet,” White said. “But yeah, I'm working on that.”

Soon after Toney's UFC signing was reported, it was Couture who immediately threw his name into the mix of potential opponents for the former boxing champion.

It's unclear as to what position a potential Couture vs. Toney bout would have on the rumored August 28th card as the UFC has yet to formally announce the rumored lightweight title rematch between Frankie Edgar and BJ Penn.

If Edgar vs. Penn II takes place at UFC 118, then the Couture vs. Toney bout would be featured in the co-main event slot but its also possible for Toney's UFC debut to be the main event if the UFC decided to hold off on the 155-pound title bout.

There has been a lot of talk about Dana White's homecoming in late August and wanting to make UFC 118 at TD Garden in Boston a super card. If that were the case, then both rumored fights would likely take place on the same card.

Another uncertainty would be the weight that the fight would take place at, Couture would have no problem packing on additional pounds to catch up to Toney, who's recent boxing career has taken place at heavyweight, although Toney had mentioned in the past that he'd have no problem cutting weight either.
