MMAFighting.com has reported that UFC lightweights Kurt Pellegrino (16-4) and George Sotiropoulos (12-2) have both signed on the dotted line and have agreed to fight each other. The fight is likely to take place at UFC 116.
Australian George Sotiropoulos is currently undefeated in the UFC and is coming off of a very impressive win over Joe Stevenson at “UFC 110: Nogeuira Vs. Velasquez.” Sotiropoulos exceeded expectations in his last fight and proved that he can hang with the division’s toughest contenders. This fight against Pellegrino marks another step up in competition for Sotiropoulos and it will be interesting to see how he measures up to the task.
Kurt “Batman” Pellegrino is currently riding a four fight win streak having racked up wins over tough competition in Thiago Tavares, Rob Emerson, Josh Neer and Fabricio Camoes, respectively. In his most recent fight, against Camoes, Pellegrino put on one of the best performances in his career; putting an end to the exciting scrap by submitting the very tough Brazilian via rear naked choke.
With both fighters specializing in groundwork and submissions, it will be interesting to see where this fight plays out; whether it takes place on the feet or on the mat this will not be a boring fight. UFC 116 is expected to be headlined by Shane Carwin and Brock Lesnar battling for the heavyweight strap and will likely take place on July 3rd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
