MMAFighting.com announced earlier today that a matchup between exciting welterweights Chris “Lights Out” Lytle (28-17-5) and Matt “The Immortal” Brown (11-8) is likely to be scheduled for UFC 116 in Las Vegas. MMAJunkie.com has since confirmed that one of the fighters has agreed to the bout.
With heavy hands and a go-for-broke style, Chris Lytle is almost always a candidate for Fight of the Night. He is currently running on a two fight win streak with his most recent victory coming against Brian Foster by way of kneebar submission at “UFC 110: Nogueira Vs. Velasquez.” Lyltle is a long-time veteran of Mixed Martial Arts and has earned four Fight of the Night bonuses, two Submission of the Night bonuses and one Knockout of the Night bonus; he has taken home bonus checks in his last four fights.
“The Ultimate Fighter: Team Forrest Vs. Team Rampage” alum Matt Brown is known for his toughness and solid all-around MMA game. Brown last appeared in action at “UFC 111: St. Pierre Vs. Hardy” where Ricardo Almeida ended his three fight UFC win streak by submitting him with a rear naked choke. Brown will be looking to get back in the win column against Lytle.
Lytle and Brown have actually squared off before; at a United Fight League show in August of 2007. That fight saw Lytle emerge as the winner by second round guillotine choke submission.
UFC 116 will likely be headlined by Shane Carwin and Brock Lesnar fighting to establish which man can rightfully call himself the UFC Heavyweight Champion. The card has not yet been officially announced but is expected to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on July 3rd.
