Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal made it clear this past weekend that he’s the real deal. Lawal walked away from only his seventh professional MMA fight with a dominant victory over seasoned veteran Gegard Mousasi, ending Mousasi’s 15-fight win streak and taking his Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Championship.
Lawal dominated the fight, with Mousasi only being awarded the second round by the judges. Lawal scored takedown after takedown throughout the five-round bout to earn a unanimous decision victory.
“Whenever I faked, he covered up and the takedowns were there all day. If you watch his fights he’s never gone past three rounds,” Mo told Sherdog.com. “As a wrestler, I’ve been trained to grind and that’s what I did, just grind him down because I knew he had no conditioning. I knew he’d fade because I watched his films.”
Despite the impressive win, Lawal was met with a spattering of boos during his post-fight interview.
“I’ve got the Bernard Hopkins mentality: It’s me against the world, and that’s how it’s gonna be the rest of my life.”
