CagePotato is reporting that English scrapper Paul Taylor has been removed from UFC 112 and his preliminary card bout with John Gunderson has been scrapped altogether. Taylor has apparently been found medically unfit to compete, likely due to the massive weight cut he endured to make what would have been his lightweight debut.
Taylor, normally a welterweight, was making the move to lightweight in hopes of reinvigorating his UFC career. Despite earning three Fight of the Night bonuses, Taylor has gone 3-4 in his seven Octagon appearances. His last fight, against John Hathaway, ended in a unanimous decision loss.
Should Taylor’s health issues be related to his weight cut this will serve as notice to other fighters that shedding extra pounds to squeeze your frame into a lighter weight class is not always the best way to reinvent your fighting career; especially when what’s holding you back is a technical issue and not one of size.
