Wanderlei Silva has officially confirmed his UFC 116 fight against Yoshihiro Akiyama by posting a video of himself signing the contract for the July 3rd showdown.
Silva claims a dominant 33-10-1 record, however was able to avoid a disastrous three-fight losing streak when he defeated the former “The Ultimate Fighter” winner. When it’s all said and done, the Brazilian will go down as one of the best to ever strap on a pair of MMA gloves.
Akiyama hasn’t competed since UFC 100 last July, when he took a narrow split decision over the gritty Alan Belcher. The Japanese star holds a dominant 13-1 professional mark, however most Octagon fans aren’t familiar with his skills since all of his damage has been done in the Orient.
UFC 116 is scheduled to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is expected to headline the event against newly-minted interim champ Shane Carwin.
