Last Fight As An Amateur Ends Strangely For Ryan Couture

Ryan Couture. If his name sounds familiar, that’s because his father is UFC Hall of Famer and MMA legend Randy “The Natural” Couture. Apparently looking to follow in his father’s very large footprints, Ryan has been competing in MMA as an amateur over the last few years with aspirations of going professional.

In fact, MMAFighting is reporting that the younger of the fighting Coutures competed in his last amateur fight last Friday evening at a TUFF-N-UFF event in Las Vegas. Unfortunately for the up-and-coming lightweight, that last amateur fight hardly ended favorably for him.

Ryan took on Sean Bollinger in a fight contested at 155lbs and was rendered unconscious due to a triangle choke submission delivered by Bollinger in the closing moments of round two. Bollinger threw his arms up and ran to meet his corner but their celebration was short-lived as they were interrupted by the referee informing them that it was time for Bollinger to come out for round three.

Apparently, the referee determined that Couture had passed out after the bell had rung and since he never tapped out the fight was allowed to continue. Couture regained composure quickly and met Bollinger for the third round where they fought on to a draw.

With the draw, Ryan Couture’s record as an amateur will stand at 5-1-1. No word yet as to when and where he will fight his first professional bout.
