After Shane Carwin knocked Frank Mir out in the first round at UFC 111 Saturday night to become the new UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion, it was only a matter of when – not if – Lesnar would rub the loss in the face of Mir. Lesnar, who was seated at ringside for the fight last Saturday, was quick to say that Mir’s days as a contender in the heavyweight division was over.
“Frank’s time is done,” Lesnar told Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin Iole. “This is the new evolution of the heavyweight division. Brock Lesnar, Shane Carwin, Cain Velasquez, Junior dos Santos, we’re the guys in this division.”
Meanwhile, White admitted at the UFC 111 post-fight press conference that Lesnar was hoping for Mir to prevail in the bout with Carwin.
“He [Lesnar] was hoping Frank was going to win because he wanted to fight Frank Mir again,” White stated at the post-fight press conference. “When Shane won [Lesnar] goes, ‘Oh well. I guess it’s Shane.’
“I say it all the time, He’s a moody guy and ever since this thing happened to him, his disposition has been a lot better. He’s a lot more thankful and he’s happy to be back and competing again.”
Brock Lesnar is scheduled to return to the Octagon to defend his title against Carwin on July 3rd.
