Thursday was quite the day for the world’s biggest MMA organization as UFC 111’s Thiago Alves was forced off the highly anticipated card by the New Jersey State Athletic Commission following an “irregularity” that was discovered in a pre-fight CT scan.
TMZ was the first to break the story and caught up with UFC president Dana White to talk about Alves’ fighting future as well as gain clarity on happened early Thursday morning.
Alves will be visiting a specialist to hopefully get himself cleared to compete again in the near future, at the same time, White is optimistic that the irregularity found in the initial test was “inaccurate” as sometimes the case.
“I’m hoping it’s a mistake and he can continue to fight … he’s one of the best fighters in the world,” the promoter stated in closing.
The Brazilian was slated to face Jon Fitch inside the Prudential Center in New Jersey this Saturday, however has since been replaced by fellow American Top Teamer, Ben Saunders.
