Five Ounces of Pain is reporting that Mike Swick announced via his Twitter page that he will soon be undergoing elbow surgery for an injury incurred in his fight with Paulo Thiago, putting to rest any rumors of a Mike Swick-Matt Serra fight.
Swick, who has a history of elbow injuries, said that doctors found “bone spurs and fragments, inflammation and possible nerve damage” after conducting an MRI. The surgery required could be intense as the fighter “will need it scoped for sure and possibly have a nerve re-routed.”
Swick’s return date is uncertain; he is under an indefinite medical suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission and will need to be cleared by an orthopedic doctor if he plans to make a return to the cage before August.
Swick last appeared at “UFC 109: Relentless” where he took on Paulo Thiago. He suffered a second round submission loss in that fight; putting him on a two fight losing streak.
