After we reported on Wednesday that Bellator had finalized the matchups for their featherweight tournament, the promotion has now made their welterweight tournament bouts official as well.
Bellator will be holding featherweight, lightweight, welterweight and middleweight tournaments during Season 2 with the tournament winners becoming the #1 contenders to the promotion’s current champions.
The welterweight tournament is set to begin on April 15th and continue on April 22nd as Bellator Fighting Championships will be broadcasting live from the Chicago Theatre for both events.
“It’s turned out exactly as I had hoped it would: world-class talent and well-known names coupled with some tremendous prospects in a tournament that anyone could win. This is what a tournament should be about,” Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said.
Here’s how the promotion’s welterweight tournament bouts look:
April 15th (Chicago Theatre in Chiacgo, Illinois)
Ben Askren (3-0) vs. Ryan Thomas (10-3)
April 22nd (Chicago Theatre in Chiacgo, Illinois)
Dan Hornbuckle (19-2) vs. Sean Pierson (9-4)
Jacob McClintock (6-0) vs. “Judo” Jim Wallhead (18-5)
Steve Carl (12-1) vs. Brett Cooper (12-5)
