Mirko Cro Cop Cut In Sparring; Still Fighting At UFC 110

A recent report translated by Fighter’s Only Magazine indicates that UFC 110 has taken another hit, albeit a minor one. Croatian magazine MMA Axion reported that Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic (25-7-2) endured a bad cut in a late sparring session with sparring partner Sasa Mucnjak. The cut required several stitches but Cro Cop says that he will not pull out of the fight.

This news comes only hours after Filipovic’s proposed opponent, Ben Rothwell, had to pull out of their UFC 110 fight because of an undisclosed illness. Rothwell’s replacement, Anthony “The Hippo” Perosh (10-5), is a second-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu; quite the style difference from the kickboxing Rothwell. It will be interesting to see how “Cro Cop” adjusts to the new opponent and the injury.

According to Fighter’s Only, the UFC approached Randy Couture and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson to fill in for Rothwell; both declined and they eventually settled on the Australian Perosh, who is 0-2 in the UFC.

“UFC 110: Nogueira Vs. Velasquez” takes place tomorrow night at Sydney, Australia’s Acer Arena. The show will be headlined by heavyweights Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez with Wanderlei Silva and Michael Bisping supporting in a middleweight bout.
