After shocking Nate Marquardt at UFC 109, maybe Chael Sonnen has superhero abilities… Like telling the future. During Tuesday’s appearance on Sirius XM Fight Club, Sonnen told Ariel Helwani that he was already preparing for UFC 112 just in case…
With yesterday’s shocking news that Vitor Belfort suffered a shoulder injury that would force him to pull out of his title bout against champion Anderson Silva, many are wondering if Sonnen would step in and save the UFC’s debut extravaganza in Abu Dhabi.
Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports spoke to Keith Kizer, executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, and was told that Sonnen can’t resume sparring until March 9th and can’t get cleared to fight any earlier than March 24th due to a cut on his forehead.
Asking Sonnen to fight the world’s baddest middleweight on such a quick turnaround is a lot to ask of anyone, making the Team Quest-trained fighter do it without being able to go 100 percent until a couple weeks before showtime is insane.
The question is, would Sonnen take a shot at the golden ticket right now just because the opportunity has presented itself?
