It was earlier reported by MMAWeekly.com that Martin Kampann is being forced out of his scheduled UFC 111 fight against Ben Saunders and is being replaced Jake Ellenberger.
Kampmann posted a message on his Twitter account concerning the nature of the injury on Tuesday night: “Out of UFC 111. I got a huge cut in training and can’t do any contact for a while. Bummed out about it. But hoping to fight again in May!!”
The post doesn’t quite relay the severity of the cut Kampamnn endured. Once you see the picture taken at the doctor’s office of the cut (which you can view on Kampmann’s Twitter by clicking here), you can see that it ranks right up there with the worst cuts seen in any UFC fight. However, since it happened in training we are left to wonder what could have happened to produce such a grisly cut; whether he should tone down the intensity of the combat portion of his training, if it was a freak accident, or if he should stop sparring with Wolverine.
“The Hitman” holds a 16-3 record in MMA and was last seen in competition rebounding from a jarring technical knockout loss to Paul Daley by submitting Jacob Volkmann at UFC 108 in early January.
