Despite Chael Sonnen’s Win, Ed Soares Not Looking Past Vitor Belfort

Although middleweight champion Anderson Silva has a UFC 112 title fight lined-up against Vitor Belfort, fans can’t seem to get enough of the verbal sparring session between recently red-hot Chael Sonnen and Silva’s manager, Ed Soares.

“We’re not looking past Belfort at all,” Soares told of Silva’s latest and most dangerous foe. “He’s a tough opponent with considerable skills. Truthfully, Chael Sonnen is the last thing on our minds right now because we can’t afford to look past this fight.”

With his utter destruction of former top contender Nate Marquardt at “UFC 109: Relentless” this past weekend, Sonnen all but assured himself the next crack at the 185-pound crown.

Although he easily took home a unanimous decision inside the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, Soares believes there’s still a lot of work to be done before Sonnen gets the privilege of entering a five-round title fight, especially against his client.

“I’m not saying he doesn’t deserve a title shot,” Soares said. “He is a tough guy and he just beat a very good Nate Marquardt. He fought really well.”

UFC 112 will be jumping off on April 10th in Abu Dhabi.
