MMAWeekly.com is reporting that Chris “The Crippler” Leben (19-6) will stand opposite undefeated Aaron Simpson (7-0) at UFC 114 on May 29. The Memorial Day weekend card will also feature a matchup between Rashad Evans and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and is expected to also hold the previously announced Forrest Griffin Vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira fight.
Chris Leben has had a rocky go of it as of late. Well publicized legal troubles (including a DUI arrest), a positive steroid test in a UFC fight that he lost on a card that he headlined, and a return fight that he lost and looked to have barely trained for all culminated in a supposed expulsion from the UFC. Left to presumably play out what was left of his MMA career in regional shows, Leben admitted to a long bout with alcoholism and pledged to get his life on the right track and prove himself worthy of a spot in the UFC.
He was granted a return fight against Jay Silva at “UFC Fight Night 20: Maynard Vs. Diaz” and he proved whatever doubters he had wrong in a dominating performance where he looked focused and well trained. The Hawaii transplant will look to keep the good faith of his fans by making a strong showing against the very tough Aaron Simpson.
