Former middleweight turned welterweight turned lightweight Paul Kelly (9-2) will return to the Octagon at UFC 112 to face HIT Squad fighter Matt Veach (11-1) according to MMAJunkie.com. “UFC 112: Invincible” will take place at the Ferrari World outdoor Concert Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. MMAJunkie.com’s sources indicate that at least one bout agreement has been signed and that the fight is all but a sure thing.
Paul Kelly’s last venture into the Octagon came at “UFC 105: Couture Vs. Vera” and ended spectacularly, just not in Kelly’s favor. “Tellys” was the victim of a spinning back kick delivered by Dennis Siver that led to a TKO loss for the Brit. That was Kelly’s second loss in five UFC appearances. He looks to get back in the win column in this fight with Veach.
Matt Veach entered the UFC undefeated and kept that streak alive with his first fight which came at “UFC Fight NIght 20: Lauzon Vs. Stephens” against Matt Grice. In his next Octagon outing he won Fight of the Night honors in a barnburner against Frankie Edgar (who also appears at UFC 112 to challenge for the lightweight title) that unfortunately ended in a rear naked choke loss for the Matt Hughes protege. Veach will be trying to improve his UFC record to 2-1 in this fight.
UFC 112 takes place on April 10 and features two title fights. 185lbs champion Anderson Silva will take on challenger and fellow Brazilian Vitor Belfort in a defense of his middleweight belt and the aptly nicknamed BJ “The Prodigy” Penn will put his lightweight belt on the line against New Jersey native Frankie Edgar.
