Current TNA Wrestling superstar Bobby Lashley (4-0) finally has an opponent set for his Strikeforce debut this Saturday at Strikeforce: Miami. After his first two scheduled opponents fell through, Lashley will face former UFC fighter and The Ultimate Fighter Season 10 contestant Wes Sims (22-12-1).
“This is great, man,” Lashley told ESPN. “I’m happy. I just wanted an opponent. I’ve been training very hard on every aspect of my game – my wrestling, jiu-jitsu, and my standup. Now that I have an opponent, we can do a little bit of scouting on the guy.”
Lashley was originally scheduled to fight Yohan Banks, but the Florida Boxing Commission rejected him as a worthy opponent.
Lashley’s next opponent was Jimmy Ambriz. Both fighters agreed to the fight and the bout was approved by the Florida State Boxing Commission (which was the hurdle with the Banks fight), but Showtime ultimately rejected Ambriz as his opponent.
Sims should be Lashley’s toughest challenge till date. In addition to being a three-time UFC veteran and TUF 10 contestant, he is currently riding a three-fight winning streak. He was last seen knocking out Jason DeAngelo at Full Contact Fight Series 29 last November.
Strikeforce: Miami takes place on January 30, 2010 from the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, FL and will air live on Showtime.
