Michael Bisping didn’t have to look far in recruiting help for his UFC 110 fight against Wanderlei Silva. Who better to get advice from than former UFC light heavyweight champ and Wolfslair MMA Academy teammate Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, who has faced Wandy three times already.
“Rampage and Wanderlei have shared a legendary series of fights, and I am very much looking forward to getting the inside scoop on Silva,” Bisping wrote in The Daily Telegraph.
The middleweights are set to square off on February 21st inside the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia. It will mark Silva’s first venture into the division owned by fellow Brazillian Anderson Silva.
After an impressive win over Denis Kang at UFC 105, Bisping feels confident that he can handle Silva’s punching power because of his daily work with Rampage.
“Rampage will get me used to taking that kind of brutal power,” a confident Bisping continued. “I’m planning on one thing and one thing only – going out to Australia and beating Wanderlei Silva up.”
With a win, both fighters put themselves into an interesting position within a very fluid middleweight division. Both are at least a couple of impressive wins away from even thinking about a five-rounder, but this showdown is a good starting point.
Anderson and Wanderlei have both stated their beef is over with, however they are well aware their paths may still cross if Wanderlei is able to go circa-2005 and knockout Bisping. Although Wandy has lost five of his last six fights, a scrap with Anderson is assured to be a Brazilian blockbuster and something most MMA fans would pay to see.
