UFC lightweight Nate Diaz wasn’t too pleased with his performance at last night’s UFC Fight Night 20 and is considering a move to the 170-pound division following his split decision loss to Gray Maynard.
“I really don’t think I’m going to stay at 155lbs. I don’t make enough money to have to drop this much weight so I’d like to fight at 170 and only go to 55’s every once in a while,” Diaz said following the loss.
In what was supposed to be a dominant win for Maynard (who was a 3-to-1 favorite entering the bout), but Diaz was able to take Maynard out of his comfort zone by getting into his head with some ‘ol fashioned trash talkin’.
Unfortunately, the judges didn’t feel that Diaz did enough to warrant a win as one judge even gave all three rounds to Maynard. The final tallies were 30-27, 29-28, 28-29.
A move up a weight class might work for the lanky Diaz, however that talent-heavy division isn’t going to provide a quicker path to the title than his current one.
