The lightweight bout between Gray Maynard and Nate Diaz tonight at “UFC Fight Night 20” just got a lot less interesting as it appears Frankie Edgar will get next dibs on BJ Penn’s UFC 155-pound crown.
Edgar is riding a three-fight winning streak and stakes claim to a dominating 11-1 mark, 7-1 inside the Octagon.
Gray Maynard that holds a perfect 8-0 record, but most importantly, out wrestled Edgar to an easy unanimous decision in their meeting at The Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale back in June 2007.
Josh Gross of SI.com states that Edgar has already earned himself the five-round affair, leapfrogging the man that schooled him.
“Edgar’s management said nothing was done, and Maynard’s performance could determine opponent,” Gross told us. “I’m hearing it’s Edgar regardless.”
It’s believed Penn will meet Edgar/Maynard at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi.
