Dana White has said that they should know the status of Brock Lesnar this week.
“I think Brock’s going to the doctor this week, and we’ll know how this thing is going to go – whether it’s over,” White told MMAJunkie.com. “It could be career-ending for him.”
White went on to note that Frank Mir’s bout with Shane Carwin at UFC 111 could be for an interim title, so one can assume that Lesnar will at the very least be out of action for at least the next 6 months and even longer if major surgery is needed.
Lesnar health has been in question since his title defense against Shane Carwin at UFC 106 had been scratched due to Lesnar’s intestinal illness.
Mir earned his rumored slot for the interim title following his destruction of Cheick Kongo in UFC 107’s co-main event earlier this month. Both Mir and Carwin have expressed interest in fighting each other, with Carwin recently writing on his personal website that Mir is “a legend of the sport and I would be honored to fight him.”
Mir is also enthusiastic to fight the Colorado native, stating that the bout between the two would be a “phenomenal matchup.”
The two men match up well. Carwin is an experienced wrestler with strong boxing skills. Mir has a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and is also well versed in muay thai, boxing and kenpo karate.
The highly anticipated bout will likely be the headlining fight at UFC 111. The card also features UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre returning to the octagon to defend his title against top contender Dan Hardy.
