Dan Henderson faces his first test in Strikeforce this April, when the former Olympic wrestler will square off against Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields in a feature bout on the next Strikeforce CBS event.
“I’m excited to be here,” Henderson said of his new home. “I’m really excited to be a part of Strikeforce.”
Henderson has won titles in PRIDE aat both 183 lbs. and 205 lbs., but stated that he would be fighting for the organization at middleweight.
“I think we’ve pretty much decided… I’m going to be coming out at the middleweight 185 [division] that I’ve been fighting at the last couple of fights,” Henderson stated. ”So that’s where I’m going to be for now. “
While there are many challenges looming in Strikeforce for Henderson, he noted that he is not looking to face their biggest star, heavyweight phenom Fedor Emelianenko, quite yet.
“I don’t know why people keep talking about that, I’ve got a lot of other fights to get to before that,” he admitted. “ For me, I do this for the challenge and I love the challenge of it and there’s no bigger challenge than Fedor so if that happens, hopefully the fans will enjoy it as much as I will.”
Strikeforce on CBS will air live in its usual timeslot of 9PM ET on a date in April yet to be determined.
