During Saturday night’s WEC 45 event, the organization confirmed that former featherweight champ Mike Brown will return to the cage against Anthony Morrison at WEC 46: Varner vs. Henderson on January 10th at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California.
Brown was last seen getting his 145-pound crown jacked by the explosive Jose Aldo WEC 44 last month. It was Brown’s first loss since 2005, but it was bound to happen when you constantly fight against the planet’s elite.
“It’s hard to beat the best guys in the world over and over,” Brown said. “When you’re fighting the top two or three guys in the world each time, over and over and over and over and over, it’s hard not to let one slip through your fingers.
“If you’re fighting easy fights, yeah, you could win 20 in a row. But when you’re fighting the guys that are second in the world, third in the world, first in the world, third in the world, that type of competition, you don’t win every game.”
Morrison, a WEC newcomer, does holds a respectable 10-7 record, however his resume pales in comparison to Brown’s. Although, he has rattled off four wins in his last five contests against the who’s-who-is-this of MMA.
