Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal gets ready to make his Strikeforce debut this Saturday, as he faces Mike Whitehead at Strikeforce: Evolution on Dec. 19th. Lawal signed a multi-fight, non-exclusive deal with Strikeforce last month, which will allow him to remain a prominent fighter in Japan, where the fans have taken quite well to his flamboyant charm.
“I’m excited for my first fight,” Lawal told Ray Flores of FightLine.com shortly after his signing last month. “I’m going to go out there and have fun and make sure Strikeforce gets their money’s worth by signing me.”
King Mo holds a perfect 5-0 MMA record, however has done almost all of his damage overseas as an employee for World Victory Road. American fans caught a glimpse of what the 28-year-old was capable of when it took him all of 25 seconds to put Mark Kerr to sleep during their M-1 Global bout in Kansas City, Missouri a couple months back.
“I don’t know what to tell you, it was like this: I walked in, got booed, took him down and smashed his face,” Lawal said of his bout with Kerr.
While Lawal will be competing at heavyweight this Saturday against Whitehead, he also has a couple of bouts under his belt at light-heavyweight. Lawal feels that he can face anyone in either division of Strikeforce.
“Everybody,” Lawal answered when asked whom he would like to face next. “Mousasi, Fedor… both of them actually. Those are two big dogs that everybody’s talking about, and I’m ready to go out there and fight both of them. I am fighting at 205 and I am fighting at heavyweight so either one of those two… eventually I’d love for it to happen.”
Lawal also talked about how his beef with Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, his elaborate entrances and more. You can watch the full interview below:
