MMAJunkie.com is reporting that the injured Rory Markham will be replaced by Jacob Volkmann in a bout against Martin Kampmann at UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva on January 2nd.
Markham reportedly suffered a knee injury while training for the scheduled welterweight bout.
Volkmann is coming off of a loss in his UFC debut against Paulo Thiago at UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin 2 and will need to either win or at least have an impressive showing if he hopes for his career in the Octagon to continue.
Kampmann, aka “The Hitman,” is coming off of a devastating loss to Paul Daley at UFC 103. He had been originally scheduled to face Mike Swick on that card, but Swick was forced off after suffering a concussion in training.
If Kampmann had won that bout, he would have been considered a contender for the welterweight title. Now, he will need to string together some wins to move back up the 170lb. ladder.
