After garnering “Knockout of the Night” in his thunderous debut against Luiz Cane, UFC light-heavyweight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (18-3) has been forced to withdraw from his bout with Brandon Vera at UFC 109 in Las Vegas.
According to a report on Sherdog.com, multiple sources have confirmed that Nogueira suffered a fractured ankle, though manager Ed Soares has not been available for comment.
Nogueira, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu specialist and amateur boxer, is currently riding a six fight win streak that includes victories over Todd Gouwenberg, Edwin Dewees, Moise Rimbon, Vladimir Matyushenko, Dion Staring, and most recently UFC light-heavyweight, Luiz Cane. “Lil Nog”, twin brother to UFC heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, has not tasted defeat since getting knockout out at the hands of Sokoudjou at Pride 33 back in 2007.
Additional sources have said that Nogueira could return to the octagon as soon as March 27th for UFC 111, though an opponent for Nogueira has yet to be announced.
It has also been reported that the UFC is currently looking for a replacement for Vera, who had posted a message on his Twitter account announcing Jon Jones as his new opponent. Even though the message was quickly deleted by Vera, outside sources have supported the Jones rumor and further clarified that the fight would take place at UFC Fight Night leading up to the premiere of the new Ultimate Fighter season on March 31st in Denver.
