If we weren’t convinced before, we certainly are now. A motivated BJ Penn fighting in the lightweight division is simply untouchable.
BJ Penn continued to clean out the lightweight division after taking apart Diego Sanchez last night at UFC 107. Many felt that Sanchez would be Penn’s toughest challenge to date, but Penn dominated the entire fight en route to cutting the challenger in the fifth round to win via doctor’s stoppage.
Penn set the tone for the fight right off the bat, as he clipped the challenger early in the first round and started raining down with a flurry of punches. Penn continued the assault and it appeared to be over, however Sanchez was able to get back to his feet.
The rest of the fight saw Sanchez continually trying to score with a single leg takedown, which the Hawaiian stuffed every time. When he attempted to exchange, Penn was quicker to the punch.
“I have to admit, I didn’t want to say this before the fight, but I’ve always wanted to fight Diego Sanchez,” Penn stated after the bout.
That’s all BJ would give us during his post-fight Octagon interview. As is customary after a Penn victory, “Check out BJPenn.com if you want to hear more,” is what the champion treated his fans to.
Since returning to the lightweight division, Penn has finished all five of his opponents before the final horn, three of which were title defenses.
