UFC 107: Paul Buentello vs. Stefan Struve

Paul Buentello vs. Stefan Struve

Round 1: Struve has an obvious reach advantage being 6’11” and nine inches taller than Buentello. Both fighters traded blows early, and Struve pulled guard in an attempt to take the bout to the ground. Buentello blocked the attempt, and Struve was able to land a big uppercut. Struve was able to take Buentello down and got his back. Struve secured a body triangle and tried to cinch in a rear-naked choke. Struve landed blows from the top and kept busy trying to secure the rear-naked choke. The crowd is booing even though Struve is staying busy on the ground. Struve let go of the body triangle, and Buentello was able to push Struve off and get on top in Struve’s guard as the round came to an end. scores the round 10-9 for Struve.

Round 2: Buentello came out punching and floored Struve with a right hand. Buentello allowed Struve to get back up to his feet. Struve attempted a heel hook, but Buentello was able to get out. Struve flew in with a knee, and Buentello clipped him with a big right that knocked Struve down. Buentello allowed Struve to get back up and landed a few more punches. Struve caught Buentello with a big elbow and Buentello caught Struve with a right. Both men then started teeing off as the crowd went crazy. Struve pressed Buentello against the cage, and Buentello caught Struve with a nice uppercut as the round ended. scores the round 10-9 for Buentello.

Round 3: It took a minute to get the round underway as Struve had a piece of his tooth stuck in his mouthguard and his corner tried to take it out. Struve landed some nice leg kicks, while Buentello kept punching. Both fighters continued to trade blows, but Struve was getting the better of it. Struve continued to land leg kicks, with Buentello not even attempting to check them. Struve kept landing leg kick after leg kick before Buentello finally caught his leg with about 90 seconds left in the round. Buentello checked another kick and knocked Struve to the ground, but let him back up. Buentello landed a couple of big punches as the round ended. Good round, but Struve did more damage with his leg kicks. scores the round 10-9 for Struve.

Stefan Struve defeated Paul Buentello via majority decision (scores of 29-28,29-29,28-28)

After the bout, Struve said he didn’t feel like a winner and wasn’t happy with his performance, and felt that the bout was a draw. The crowd booed even though it was the right decision.
