Last night, former The Ultimate Fighter 8 finalist Vinny Magalhaes took a convincing first round victory over Mike Nickels in the main event at “Ring of Fire 36: Demolition” in Denver, Colorado.
Magalhaes came out fast as he landed a punch/kick combo that sent Nickels reeling. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ace was able to get a hold of Nickels and slam him to the mat, landing in dominant side-control.
As we all know, once Vinny gets a scrap gets to the ground it’s all but a done deal. In fact, it was only a matter of seconds before Nickels gave up his back, allowing Magalhaes to sync in a figure-four body lock.
Moments later, the crafty Magalhaes was able to get a hold of Nickel’s right arm and finished the fight with a sick armbar at 1:19 in the first round. Unfortunately for Nickels, he found out firsthand how difficult Vinny is to handle once the fight gets on the ground.
The win was Magalhaes’ second straight victory as he took a first round submission over Chris Davis at “The Carolina Crown II” back in October.
