As we reported earlier, Anderson Silva will be out of action longer than originally thought. The UFC middleweight champion recently underwent elbow surgery and says that he may not be able to fight until April. Silva was originally scheduled to face top contender Vitor Belfort at UFC 109 on February 6, 2010, however Fighters Only Magazine is reporting that Belfort will now face Nate Marquardt.
“I want to tell every one I cannot say anything yet [about] what is next [for me] because Lorenzo and Dana will let everybody know what’s next,” Belfort wrote on his Twitter. “Make sure you guys tune every day [to] the twitter of Lorenzo and Dana.”
While Belfort says that though he does not yet know his next opponent will be, he fells that Marquardt would be a good match-up.
“As far as I know the UFC still didn’t give me any opponent but Marquardt would be a good one,” Belfort told Brazilian website Terra.com. “Because he suffered a surgery, Anderson won’t be able to recover and come back soon. Whatever UFC determine it’s OK for me. I just want an adversary defined. I’m waiting.”
