With a slight lull in MMA action, let’s take a look ahead to what’s on tap for the UFC’s next big show, UFC 107: Penn vs. Sanchez on December 12th at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee.
UFC lightweight champ BJ Penn will be defending his strap against top contender Diego Sanchez in the night’s main event. Once again, The Hawaiian looked dominant in his last outing at UFC 101, where he submitted Kenny Florian in the fourth-round of their bout with a rear-naked hoke.
Penn has rolled off four straight in the 155-pound class, all ending in violent finishes.
Speaking of four in a row, Sanchez has been perfect since dropping down to Penn’s division. He squeaked out a close split decision over Clay Guida at The Ultimate Fighter Season 9 Finale in his last octagon appearance to earn top contender status, however he will have to come with a game he’s yet to display if he intends to dethrone the champ.
No knock on Diego … there’s just nobody in the world that has shown the MMA skills to take Penn’s title at that lightweight. However, Sanchez is a competitor and will come with it, so BJ needs to have his cardio in check once again.
