Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra recently announced that he will be facing Frank Trigg at UFC 109 in February of 2010. The 35-year old stated on his Facebook page that he is looking forward to the bout following a nine-month absence from the octagon.
“Should be an exciting fight!!!” Serra wrote on his Facebook account. “I love the UFC…they keep hooking me up with the most arrogant guys to punch in the face!!!”
Trigg is coming off of a recent loss to Josh Koscheck at UFC 103. Many speculated that the fighter would get cut from the UFC roster following the loss, however UFC President Dana White decided to give Trigg another shot in the organization.
“I’ll get one more shot, another fight, to prove I belong here,” Trigg told MMAJunkie.com earlier this year. “If I win, they’ve got to keep me around. If I lose and it’s back-to-back losses, they’ll probably drop me, rightfully so.”
UFC 109 will take place on February 6, 2010 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Other bouts on the card include Randy Couture vs. Mark Coleman and Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnenn.
