As we reported last week, the cursed UFC 108 card suffered another casualty, as Yahoo! Sports reported that Gabriel Gonzaga will have to bow out of his bout with Junior Dos Santos at the event due to a staph infection. A staph infection was also responsible for taking Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira out of his scheduled main event fight with Cain Velasquez.
Marco Alvan, Gonzaga’s manager, told Sherdog that the heavyweight is taking antibiotics and is expected to resume training in a couple of weeks, however that would not give him enough time to train for the bout with Dos Santos.
Dos Santos is expected to be given a new opponent for the card, who has yet to be named. He was last seen defeating Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic at UFC 103 in Dallas, where he overwhelmed the Croatian with his diversified striking, ultimately defeating Cro Cop via TKO in the third round.
