According to a report on MMAJunkie.com, former UFC interim heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will now face undefeated heavyweight Cain Velasquez at UFC 110 in Australia in February. The bout was originally slated for UFC 108 in January, but had to be postponed after Nogueira suffered a severe staph infection.
Nogueira had just gotten over a staph infection last year before his bout with Frank Mir at UFC 92. The infection was not made public until months after the fight, when Nogueira stated he had the staph infection 20 days before the fight, and had to spend 5 days in the hospital. Despite that, Nogueira went on to face Mir and ended up getting dominated, and dropped the UFC interim heavyweight championship to Mir in the process. Nogueira wasn’t about to make that mistake again, and opted to postpone the fight this time around.
UFC 110 will take place from the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia on Sunday, February 21, 2010. The event will mark the UFC’s first trip to Australia.
