The UFC’s debut in Australia could see a change of headliners after UFC President Dana White told MMAJunkie Radio on Friday night that the main event “might change.” Wanderlei Silva is currently set to face Yoshihiro Akiyama in the featured bout, but after the recent string of bad luck on the injury front, the fight could be moved to fill another card.
Silva is looking to return after losing a decision to Rich Franklin at UFC 99, his fifth loss in his last six attempts. The Brazilian is also fully recovered from facial tissue surgery, a procedure that will strengthen the skin on his face to prevent it from getting cut.
Speaking of decisions, Akiyama took one over Alan Belcher in his octagon debut at UFC 100 after fighting his first 13 professional bouts in Japan. He is one of the world’s best 185-pounders that people don’t know about.
Between Brock Lesnar’s illness, Lyoto Machida & Anderson Silva’s surgeries as well as Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira’s staph infection, the UFC has a lot of work to do heading into the New Year.
Let the games begin…
