UFC 106: Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin

Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin

Round 1: Griffin tagged Ortiz with a shot early. Griffin started landing the leg kicks, and Ortiz took Griffin down. Ortiz stayed busy on top, while Griffin went for a kimura and used it to shrug Ortiz off and both men got back to their feet. They clinched against the cage, Griffin caught Ortiz with a nice combination. Griffin clinched Ortiz against the cage as the round came to a close. Close round. scores the round 10-9 for Ortiz.

Round 2: Both fighters traded early, and Ortiz scored a big takedown. Griffin managed to get back to his feet. Griffin nailed Ortiz with a front kick to the face, which knocked Ortiz’s mouthpiece out, and they paused the fight so that he could get it back in. Griffin continued to be the aggressor with kicks and punches, but Tito was able to take Griffin down again. Ortiz landed elbows from the top, and landed several punches. Griffin was cut bad and was able to sweep Tito and get into half guard. Griffin landed short elbows as the round came to an end. scores the round 10-9 for Ortiz.

Round 3: Griffin started off as the aggressor, nailing Tito with a variety of kicks and punches. Griffin continued to pick Tito apart with body kicks and strikes. Ortiz shot, but Griffin was able to stuff it. Ortiz is looking gassed and stumbled after attempting a high kick. Griffin continued to peg Tito with punches and kicks. Ortiz and Griffin traded as the round ended. The round was all Griffin. scores the round 10-9 for Griffin.

Forrest Griffin defeated Tito Ortiz via split decision scores of (29-28 Ortiz, 30-27 Griffin, 29-28 Griffin)

After the fight, Griffin said they would need a third since they’re 1-1. Griffin said that Anderson Silva had broken him, but that he was now back.

Joe Rogan then moved on to Ortiz, who said he had a bulging disc and a cracked skull, and got hot at the fans for booing. Griffin chimed in, and said that when you train to fight, you get hurt. Ortiz then dedicated the fight to Frank Fertitta.
