Matt Brown vs. James Wilks
Round 1: Both men exchanged leg kicks early before clinching against the cage. Wilks attempted a takedown, which was stuffed by Brown. Brown managed to peg Wilks with some nice combinations, and stuffed another takedown attempt from Wilks. Wilks was able to push forward and landed a couple of good strikes before the clinched against the cage, and tried another takedown, which Brown defended again and managed to cinch in a standing guillotine. Wilks was able to wiggle out and finally take Brown to the ground. Brown was able to get back up, and Wilks pegged him with a couple of punches and kicks as the round came to an end. FightLine.com scores the round 10-9 for Brown.
Round 2: Brown started the round with some nice combinations and kicks. Brown nailed Wilks with a flying knee that floored Wilks, and Brown jumped on top and tried to finish Wilks. Wilks was able to get ahold of Brown’s leg, Brown broke free and they were back to their feet. They clinched against the cage again, and Brown continue to work over Wilks’ body with knees. Wilks was able to press Brown against the cage, but couldn’t do much and they were eventually separated. Brown went back on the offensive, landing some nice combinations and strikes and then taking Wilks to the ground. Wilks was able to turn Brown over and get side control. Wilks started to land some punches, and Brown was able to get Wilks in a triangle right as the round came to an end. FightLine.com scores the round 10-9 for Brown.
Round 3: Wilks started the round with some kicks, and pressed Brown against the octagon, but Brown was able to break free. Brown started pushing forward. Wilks tried for a kimura, but Brown was able to defend and was then able to mount Wilks and land several punches. Wilks turned over, and Brown continued to land punches to the side of Wilks’ head before the referee stepped in and called the fight.
Matt Brown defeated James Wilks via TKO (strikes) at 2:27 of Round 3.
After the bout, Brown said the flight to the U.K. affected his cardio, but he fought through it. He said he still has a lot to work on.
