Former UFC interim heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will face undefeated Cain Velasquez at UFC 108 on January 2nd.
Tatame.com was the first to report the scrap and MMAWeekly.com has since confirmed with sources close to the bout that the 265-pound clash is a-go.
Nogueira was last seen taking a unanimous decision over UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture at UFC 102. Many speculated, including yours truly, that the win immediately shot “Big Nog” back into title contention.
Velasquez is one of the division’s fastest rising stars, and his pounding of Ben Rothwell at UFC 104 in Los Angeles a couple weeks back certainly solidified that. Although Rothwell protested that their fight was stopped a tad prematurely, Velasquez easily collected the TKO win that evening.
