Fedor Emelianenko is set to make his Strikeforce debut against the undefeated Brett Rogers in Strikeforce’s CBS debut on Nov. 7. The legendary heavyweight noted in a recent blog at Sports.ru that he’s ready for anything from Rogers.
“I’m sure Rogers will want to surprise me with something,” he wrote (translated). “I should be ready for anything.”
Some have criticized the bout saying that Rogers, who is coming off of a 22 second first-round knockout victory over former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski in June, is just an easy win for Fedor. Fedor, however, noted that Rogers is a dangerous opponent for him.
“This is a strong fighter who has already proved himself with his previous ten victories, and is one of the best heavyweights in MMA at the moment,” he noted. “Rogers has several major trump cards – speed, impact and power, and I have to work well to keep the American from using them.”
Fedor also stated that there is no such thing as a weak opponent in MMA.
“I have never met with weak opponents, because in MMA there can not be, if we are talking about the highest level, of course,” he said. “Due to the fact that MMA technique uses a dozen different martial arts, there are a lot of nuances. Each fighter’s own individual style, their advantages, and each of them can be decisive in the fight.”
Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers will be taking place inside the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The show will mark the American primetime television debut of WAMMA heavyweight champ Fedor Emelianenko, and will be the first of a multi-event deal between Strikeforce and CBS.
