Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem has made it clear that he wants his next MMA bout to be with Fedor Emelianenko. Following his recent win over James Thompson at Dream.12, the 29-year old said he that would like to face the Russian heavyweight next April.
“I want all of you to write this down, I want to fight Fedor,” Overeem told reporters after his fight with Thompson. “Alistair Overeem wants to fight Fedor in April 2010. So write that down.”
Overeem mentioned April 2010 as a potential date for the fight since he is focusing on kickboxing for the rest of the year. “The Demolition Man” will be competing in the K-1 World Grand Prix Final on December 5, and then hopes to fight a K-1 rules match on the New Year’s Eve DYNAMITE!! show.
Overeem also noted that he would prefer the fight with Fedor to take place in DREAM rather than Strikeforce. You can watch the full interview with Overeem below:
