It was inevitable that the UFC would counter-program Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers on November 7th, and as ee mentioned yesterday in our ‘Quick Shots’, it was revealed that Spike TV will be broadcasting the debut of UFC Main Events: Couture vs. Nogueira that same evening. The two-hour special will feature four post-UFC 100 PPV main events, headlined by the UFC 102 heavyweight clash between former champions Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
Spike TV vice president of sports and specials, Brian J. Diamond, made the announcement today on MMAjunkie.com Radio.
“We always get calls from the UFC about some great programming they want us to air all the time,” Diamond told the site. “And we love it. The fans love it.”
Strikeforce appears to have gotten off lucky that MMA’s biggest organization already had an action-packed holiday season scheduled. Otherwise, they would have hosted a live event of their own that same weekend.
In addition to the Couture/Big Nog fight, you can also catch Vitor Belfort’s knockout of Rich Franklin at UFC 103, as well as the UFC 101 contests between BJ Penn and Kenny Florian and Anderson Silva and Forrest Griffin.
Diamond said that this special was only a sign of things to come. In fact, they are working on more goodies that should arrive before the New Year.
“We have some more stuff planned that we’ll announce in the next few weeks that will take place by the end of the year,” he said.
You can catch UFC Main Events: Couture vs. Nogueira beginning at 9PM ET/PT. Or, you can watch Fedor Emelianenko make his U.S. primetime debut. Decisions, decisions . . . DVR!
