Late Wednesday night, welterweight Jon Fitch alerted the MMA world that his UFC 106 bout against Ricardo Almeida has been canceled after Almeida tore his knee during a recent training session. Although he was disappointed about the news, Fitch hinted there are bigger and better things to come.
“My fight on Nov. 21st is off, Almeida blew out his knee, but I get a bigger better fight instead. Cant say who yet, but lots of you have been waiting for this fight a long time,” Fitch Tweeted.
No official word on who Fitch is referring to, however if it’s a “bigger” fight, there’s almost no possibility that it would still happen in time to meet the November 21st deadline. It’s likely that his opponent could be former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes, however there has been no official word on whether the future Hall of Famer would take the fight.
